Introducing A Holmes & Son.

Client: A Holmes & Son

Sector: Food Retail

Project Overview

A Holmes & Son is a staple of the Coalville High Street, with a history of traditional butchery dating back to 1965. While their reputation for quality and "old-fashioned" service was well-known locally, they lacked a digital presence that matched their expertise. In a world of supermarket convenience, they needed a way to show why independent, expert butchery still matters.

The goal was to build a site that celebrates their craft, making it easy for both long-standing customers and a new generation of home cooks to see what’s in the shop, check opening hours, and feel the "personal touch" that only a family-run business can offer.

My Approach

I wanted the design to feel as authentic as the shop itself. I chose a clean, professional layout that uses traditional cues, like classic typography and a focus on craftsmanship, to build immediate trust. I didn't want the site to feel "corporate"; I wanted it to feel like a local shop that takes pride in its work.

The navigation was built to be fast and functional. I prioritised the things local customers care about most: the range of fresh cuts, their famous homemade products, and clear contact details for trade enquiries. I also focused heavily on local SEO, ensuring that when someone in the area searches for quality local meat, A Holmes & Son is the first name they see. The result is a digital storefront that supports the physical shop, helping a traditional business thrive in a modern market.
