Project Overview
Tudge Media came to me looking for a significant step up from the WordPress website Tom had previously built himself.
As a videography and photography business, the website needed to do more than simply explain what Tudge Media offered. It needed to give the work itself centre stage, showcasing everything from commercial videography and photography through to drone content in a way that felt polished, visual and professional.
I rebuilt the website on Squarespace from the ground up, creating a much stronger platform for Tom to showcase his growing portfolio while giving prospective clients an easy way to explore his work and get in touch.
Since launching, the website has generated more than 1,200 visits from almost 900 unique visitors, with over 3,200 pageviews, an average of around 2.6 pages viewed per visit.
My Approach
Rather than relying heavily on copy to sell the business, the website needed to give Tom's photography and videography room to speak for itself. That meant working extensively with video throughout the site and finding layouts that showcased the content without making the experience feel cluttered.
Some of those elements proved trickier to get right than others. Video blocks needed careful formatting across different screen sizes, while additional custom touches were introduced throughout the build, including a navigation effect that blurs the page behind the menu while allowing the background video to continue playing.
The project also became one of my most collaborative builds. Tom and I already knew each other, and as ideas developed, so did the website. What started as one direction evolved several times throughout the project, with plenty of new ideas being explored along the way. On several occasions I worked alongside Tom at his home so we could make decisions and changes together rather than endlessly passing revisions backwards and forwards.
There was another nice outcome from the collaboration too: while I was working on his website, Tom photographed me at work. Many of those images have since become the photography you'll see throughout this very website.
Tudge Media may have started as another client project, but it became a genuine creative collaboration between two local businesses.
